Outfit Design

I've decided to scrap the concept I came up with on my last post for time reasons and because the wings would be difficult to animate as I've already mentioned. So, I'm definitely sticking with my dancer concept now and I've moved onto her development. The first thing I wanted to cover was her outfit. My first design on my previous post (Dancer: Initial Design) was inspired by many things. I mainly looked at Egyptian fashion and took various things mixing both ancient and modern clothing. Still using these references I came up with this design.

The biggest fault in this image is that, for a costume design, I should really have drawn the whole body which was my intention but, as you can see I ran out of room. This is a problem I come across quite frequently so next time i'll be sure to roughly draw out the whole body rather than just drawing straight up. I also need to get a feel fro proportions and what I can manage to fit onto a page because once the head is draw a particular size the rest must match. Of course, the other way would be to draw on my laptop with a tablet because I can just make things bigger or smaller to fit an A4 sheet.

Anyway, moving onto the design. I quite like this design but it's a lot more complex than my original. The piece of fabric down the middle I feel adds a really nice delicate touch and would match the hip scarf nicely~ The lower half which you can't see is basically a skirt that's attached from the back so the front is still open. I did this so that no attention would be taken away fro the lovely patterned drape on her belt. The upper half was inspired by some of the features in belly dancing outfits. Here are some of the features I was looking at.

The details are mainly focusing on the bra and belt and they also match one another and I really like this because it helps to bring the outfit together as a whole. As for colours, I'll need to start looking at them after but as she's a performer, they'll be quite bright and vibrant.
