Okay so for my level what better than to start with some mood boards to help jog my imagination. The theme's that I've been given to choose from is the reconstruction of Kirkstall Abbey which is down the road from me, A UFO crash site or Fairytale. I have decided to choose fairytale and my first thoughts were to create a a village community of some kind so I was kinda twisting the brief a little towards the fantasy side of things.
Here are some mood boards showing the kind of things I was looking and taking influence from.
Here I was looking at cottage and house designs that I thought would work well with the theme I chose but as you can see most of these are actually models for elven villages so take a guess where that lead me.
You're absolutely right, elven villages and trees, forests and everything wonderful. I started to look at some quirky yet beautiful designs to get an idea of what's already been done and what's out there so I could create something a little more unique which is a difficult thing for something that must have been done thousands of times.
These are some doodles I did for my village idea. I really like the direction they're going in but after presenting my work so far I noticed that I was straying too far away from the brief. Although I allowed to go through with this idea I thought it be best to rethink my design and turn things around before I went any further. W
These too Posters were done in Photoshop. I used several textures and combined some photos to create a realistic looking film poster for the game Zelda. I looked at several different films such as Lord of the Rings and took from them the character arrangement and different ways of getting across this fantasy element.
This is an additional part of the practical side of the brief and here the focus was Typography. I decided to take the hearts from the zelda game as they are easily recognisable and I created two posters using that formation. I'm really happy with these posters. From the people I showed it to, the bottom one was a little more obvious in comparison to the top but when you can see it it becomes quite hard to miss.
This is one of my favourite things i've created up to date :)
In relation to the Social Media Lecture I had I wanted to find some juicy info about something quite recent to demonstrate the impact that Social Media has on the Game and Film Industry. I started to have a little nosy on the internet and it seems that the most talked about Social Media event to date is about the new 'Hunger Games' films which was released on Friday.
I'm actually planning to go see this film tomorrow so I wanted to be sure not to find any spoilers as such but what I did find was something quite interesting. The marketing sector for 'The Hunger Games' used Social Media as a platform to reach out to the public creating a world wide buzz towards the release of the film. If you haven't seen the trailer I suggest you check it out.
The marketing team created 13 Facebook pages, each representing it's own district that the film features. The pages allow the public to engage with the districts and become a virtual member of that world. This is a pretty unique way to go about selling a film. I think it's innovative ideas like these that really get us as an audience something to talk about.
For those Twitter fans out there, 'The Hunger Games' also released a Twitter account @TheCapitolPN which really brought the world together, making Tweets in character and directing and engaging people by allowing them to post pictures via a Tumblr account and much more.
Moving onto the Tumblr account (which you can find via this link http://capitolcouture.pn/). This Tumblr page was created in relation to the design of the characters. It actually proves to be a very inspirational site for creative practitioners alike and is a great source for Fashion innovations. There's also lots of fun guides for what to wear to 'The Hunger Games' and as I've mentioned before, a chance to post your own pictures.
As a result of all this use of Social Media, data shows that there was more of a buzz up to the release of 'The Hunger Games' in comparison to the last 'Potter' film. Sadly, it didn't become as popular as the first 'Twilight' film but I'm not really a big fan of 'Twilight' so I won't go into that so much.
Anyway, here is a graph to sum up the impact it had next to the the first Twilight film and the last Potter film.
To finish off, here is a video showing the many methods to grab audiences through Social Media. This video talks through some of the things I've touched on and more.
